Singapore 2002

Singapore is located just off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and consists of a diamond shaped main island and almost 60 small islets. To its north, connected by a causeway, lies Malaysia. To the south is Java and to the west is Sumatra.

Singapore boasts the second-highest standard of living in Asia, behind only Japan. It has few natural resources other than its hardworking population and strategic location within Southeast Asia. Singapore has virtually no unemployment and boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Of all the Asian cities I have visited, Singapore, by far, is one of the most beautiful. It has vast green belts within and around the city, blending the modern day structures with the exotic beauty of a tropical island setting. It's no wonder Singapore considers itself the "Garden City of Asia".

Over the course of 2002, Andrew had several opportunities to visit Singapore on business for LSI Logic. His first trip was in March, then August, and then again in September. After this many trips, Andrew was actually able to squeeze in a little tourist time.

SIA Bus TourOn of the best ways to get around Singapore is to use the SIA Island Hopper (S$3), a service provided by Singapore Airlines. The SIA tour bus takes you through all the major tourist areas of Singapore, including Little India, and the Arab Quarter, Boat and Clark Quays, Chinatown, and Singapore's famous botanical gardens.

The Conrad Centennial Singapore The Conrad Centennial Singapore is one of the best hotels I have had the pleasure to stay in. The accommodations are up scale business class. But what makes the Conrad Centennial Singapore so remarkable is the outstanding staff and service. From the very first visit, they made me feel as if I were their most important guest; as if I were CEO of a large corporation. Others in my group echo the same sentiments. With all the different places we've all traveled, the Conrad Centennial Singapore deserves a place in the top ranks!
