Tokyo Tower

        Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower is Japan's most famous observation tower. It was built in 1958 for broadcasting throughout the Kanto region. Modeled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, it is 1092 feet high, just over 100 feet higher than the Eiffel Tower. But it is 3000 tons lighter due to advancements in steel manufacturing and construction technology.

The main, or "Grand", observation level is at 450 feet. If you want to pay a little more, you can go up to the "Special" observation platform which is another 300 feet higher, but I don't recommend it. You get to see the same kind of view from either level. Tokyo tower also contains an aquarium, wax museum, Holographic Mystery Zone, and showrooms. None of which are worth the over priced admission fees.

On a clear day, you are suppose to be able to see Mt.Fuji and Mt.Tsukuba. For some reason, every time I visit some place that says "...on a clear day...", it always seems to be overcast, or fogged in.

Tokyo Tower broadcasts all 9 of Japan's television stations and 5 FM radio stations. Cameras on the tower also monitor city traffic.
