Hong Kong island

Hong Kong Island, or Fragrant Harbour, was once a quiet fishing village with a small population. Situated at the estuary of the Pearl River Delta, in the southern part of China, it is now a city full of contrasts of east and west. After over a century 's cultural and traditionnal exchange, Hong Kong has now become one of the world's major finacial and commercial centers.

Much of the city of old has given way to modern commercialization. Even the infamous Wanchai district (tails from the world of Suzy Wong) has changed it's brothels into home building supplies and other consumer product shops.

Shopping the major attraction of Hong Kong Island. Most tourists are here for the deals on the latest consumer and clothing products. As for myself, I came in the hopes of seeing historical parts of Hong Kong that I've only read about. Sadly, much of it has disappearred. I am not a shopper myself, so Hong Kong Island was a bit of a disappointment.

Though a little less friendly than across the border, the people of Hong Kong a pleasant and friendly. English is a common language so communication was not a problem. And there were 7-Eleven's, McDonald's, and KFC's every couple of blocks.
